Pancho Cabral was born in La Rioja, an Argentine city located at the foot of the Andes.
His sound evokes the landscapes, memories, and rich cultural heritage of this Andean
region. He is a distinguished songwriter and composer, but above all,
a weaver of memory — a poetic voice whose songs have long resonated at
the heart of Argentine music. Performed and immortalized by legendary
artists such as Mercedes Sosa, his works — Azul Provinciano, Serenatero
de bombos, Como esperando la vida, among many others — have transcended
the bounds of time and space, deeply rooted in the land yet open to the
world.
With a tenor voice of remarkable warmth, Cabral has graced stages around
the globe, both as a solo artist and as a member of iconic ensembles like
Los Huanca Hua and Los Andariegos. On
occasion, he shared the stage with
Mercedes Sosa herself. In a rare artistic communion, he became one of the
voices of the Cantata Riojana, a musical work that traverses the history
and cultural identity of La Rioja.
In his album El Juglar Enarinado, Cabral pays tribute to the unseen
figures and vast landscapes of La Rioja. Through this work, his
compositions create a sensitive and nuanced dialogue between ancestral
Argentine rhythms, Latin American influences, and the subtle tones of
jazz, shaping a sonic world that is both profound and timeless.
In recent years, Pancho Cabral has consolidated his group around Rodolfo Tubo Moya,
a performer of great artistic sensitivity, and saxophonist Nahuel Cabral, whose arrival
brings a contemporary sound that enters into dialogue with the group's traditional roots.
The group blends the ancestral with the contemporary, keeping the essence of northwestern
Argentine folklore alive through traditional instruments like the caja
and the bombo, while also
exploring new musical textures that enrich their artistic expression. In their music,
improvisation and composition, tradition and modernity coexist in harmony, giving rise to a
profound sonic experience that transcends genres and styles.
Rodolfo Tubo Moya is a unique performer on the Argentine
popular music scene, carrying a voice infused with earth, memory, and emotion.
Through his songs, he brings to life the landscapes, struggles, and hopes of the people,
deeply rooted in the living traditions of Argentine folklore.
In February 2012, he received First Prize in the Febrero Chayero competition, organized by
the municipality of La Rioja (Argentina) — an award that recognized the authenticity and
expressive power of his performance in a tribute to the popular music of the northwest.
The following year, in 2013, his voice was once again honored at the national level when he
won the First Prize of the CFI Biennial as a solo vocalist, confirming his place among the
leading voices of contemporary Argentine song.
His latest album, En esta rueda cantando, is a poetic and musical journey, where each song
becomes a ritual of memory and celebration. A vibrant work, both intimate and collective,
that testifies to the living power of popular song.
Nahuel Cabral, a saxophonist with a unique style and the newest voice in the trio,
brings a renewed energy and a distinctly contemporary sound to the ensemble.
With his artistic sensitivity he enriches the fusion of jazz and folklore with original textures, blending
bold improvisations and traditional rhythms. His subtle and expressive — shaped in part by his time
performing with the Fribourg Conservatory’s Big Band (Switzerland) — playing creates a bridge between
ancestral roots and modern explorations, offering the group a refreshed sonic palette that invites the
listener on a musical journey both profound and dynamic
